Restoration in 1996

The first repairing or restoration project was started during the summer 1996, but I didn't drive the car until September. The car was bought as "rust free" just a year before, but someone had made miracles with fiberclass filler as you can see from the photos. The same fibreclass magician might have also been the one who welded one extra circle to the rear springs to give more elegant character to the car... Those springs were replaced.

After all when there was also some solid metal in the car, the interior was renewed and the car was painted with Porsche's Iris Blau Metal (color of 1994).

You can find the photos from the gallery.

Restoration in 2002

The second major repair project took place in 2002. The car already needed just a little fixing, but in July 2002 it was broken into. That's why we decided to paint and fix the car completely.

The burglars attempted to enter the car by picking the locks, but it was too difficult and these fellows decided to break a window. They busted the interior and took my CD-player and many other not so valuable things.

I think they tried to steal the whole car because they tried to open the hood, the window was broken quite "decently" and the whole car was moved a few metres from the parking place. The curse on those who violated my Mercedes is terrible. I think I caught those burglars (pointed them for police patrol squad). The case went to court and one of the burglars was found guilty in theft and attempted unauthorized use of the car.

During this project which started in summer 2002 the car was painted and the rust was removed. A new stereo system, a proper car alarm and central locking were also installed. Now I can open the trunk with remote control! ;)

Photos related to this restoration project can also be found from the gallery. You can also find some photos taken during "the desperate speaker enclosure project" from the same album in the gallery.
